Unfortunately, Enchanted Portals, as good as it looks (and hopefully plays) is copying a lot from Cuphead in both visuals and gameplay. While it is true there are plenty Metroidvanias out there and nobody seems to complain it copies original Metroid, a good portion of them give a unique spin to the formula. It has more than a passing resemblance to the Cuphead. So when something similar comes out, absolutely it will be compared to the original.īut the problem here is not really the art style but the gameplay. True, Cuphead doesn't own the style of 30's cartoons, but, if I'm not mistaken, it is the first one to utilize such style in a video game, at least to that degree. On the other hand I totally get the people that are saying this is a rip-off of Cuphead. On one hand I love to see more games like Cuphead and I am definitely getting Enchanted Portals once it gets released. We have added platforming stages, with a great variety of character-environment interactions to spice up the gameplay. We have put a special emphasis on elements and mechanics that help our game further differentiate itself from Cuphead, including a new, more diverse soundtrack that uses different musical styles for each world in the game. We have made some adjustments to the overall gameplay speed, aiming to offer a more exciting and dynamic experience. Given the large number of people who have asked for Enchanted Portals to be on PS4, we’ve decided to launch it on that platform in addition to PC and Switch. To that end, we have created a new extended trailer in which we show some of the changes and new additions we’ve made to the game and a lot of you have been suggesting: If you are new to this type of game, then maybe you see a diamond in the rough through the trailer alone. Now, Xixo Game Studio is resurrecting the crowdfunding drive, claiming that it will allow them more control over the project – and has released a new extended trailer to support this.Īfter several months of hard work and exploring different options to fund the development of Enchanted Portals, we have ultimately decided to relaunch the Kickstarter campaign as we believe it would grant us more control over the project. If you are a fan of Cuphead, proceed with caution as this game might not live up to expectations. The game could be great or a complete flop, but it is way too early to tell. From the names to the premise, the game feels fairly basic, and many fans are concerned about this. “Bob and Penny are two rookie magicians stuck between dimensions which will have to face numerous dangers in order to retrieve the pages of the Magic Book and be able to return home safely,” it reads. The main characters themselves lose some value when reading through the description. There is the interesting ones like the rooster man or the giant robotic cow, but the frog and the moon look basic and bland. The main character looks really basic, and the bosses, although varieties, can appear fairly basic. Like Cuphead, it does feature a co-op ability so two players can fight the dangers side by side.įans are already splitting in the community about whether this is a unique and great spin on the game or if it is simply a discount copy. On the bright side, the backgrounds are vibrant and pretty, and there seems to be a good mix of bosses to give it a unique feel. The animation is a little wonky, but that is to be expected from such a small team. The combat, music, style, and feel all look close to the formula, but it seems to be a much slower variant. Many people are already calling it a discount Cuphead due to obvious inspiration from the game. This game takes a magical adventure of their design and mixes it with all the aspects that fans love from Cuphead. The game is being developed by Xixo Studio, which is a small two-person team that is major fans of Cuphead. They are working on Kickstarter to raise funds for a release on the Nintendo Switch. It is a co-op platformer/shooter that brings back memories of jumping through a magical land and blasting things with a snap of your fingers. This game is styled like Cuphead and is destined for a life on the Nintendo Switch. Like magic from another dimension, Enchanted Portals has appeared with an adorable trailer and a familiar play style.
